Well.
Not since November.
Anyway.
Sex rules the world. Television commercials, billboards, magazines, the internet; it all holds enough sexual content that even those of us that have grown up with it being an everyday thing are shocked that such things could be seen on such a regular basis. My generation's everyday conversations most often include sexualreferences and jokes, some of which may refer to things that actually happened, most referring to things that we have witnessed on television, through the internet, or otherwise. The other day, my mom asked me if I knew what "text sex" was.
To be honest, I almost started laughing, as I've known that term since 6th grade. What is new to her has been old news to me for quite some time, although the rumors of so-and-so doing whatever it was they did through texting were ones I often spread through middle school.
In a world were commercials for food at seemingly innocent places, such as Carls Jr., become incredibly sexual based and, as Jeff happened to say, "borderline pornographic," it is hard to listen to those who tell us that sex and sexually based things are not appropriate for our age.
I've heard several stories throughout my few teenage years that center around how little our parents and adults knew about sex and sexual things in general when they were fourteen, fifteen, and sixteen. Today, you could walk down the street and ask any eleven or twelve year old how much they know about sex, and the answer most of them would give you would equal the answer of a fifteen or sixteen year old back when our parents were born. Younger generations are being bombarded with the idea of sex everyday. Sex talks are becoming a normal thing for an increasingly younger age group.
I find it hard to believe that the world can be so focused on sex that hardly anyone realizes how harsh it is on the minds of the younger generations, the ones who will one day make all the decisions.
Being focused on sex is most definitely not our world's only fault, but it is an increasingly alarming one. To be fifteen and be aware of how damaging it is is a scary thing, but to be an adult of 40 or older and not be the one promoting it? Absolutely wrong.
My first blog in months, and it's a rant about sex.
I'll be on ranting more often, as this sort of thing clears my mind.
Thanks for reading, leave a comment telling me problems YOU think are increasingly alarming.
